With Creators Update out of the way, Microsoft is now fully focusing on the development of the next Windows 10 version, codenamed Redstone 3. One of the many expected and rumored features includes a design overhaul being called “Project Neon”. Ahead of the release of Creators Update, the Redmond software maker had introduced some small design changes from Neon to apps like Groove Music. With Microsoft’s Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16184 for PC Fast ring Insiders having released on Friday, we now have an early look at what should we expect from this new design language.

Windows 10 Redstone 3 is set to be released later this year and is expected to be the biggest upgrade for the OS since the release of Windows 10 in 2015. Several changes are planned for the next Windows 10 version, including an improved design experience. Microsoft is currently calling this new design Project Neon. While we will hopefully learn more about this at the Build 2017 conference, Microsoft has already started to offer some early glimpses.
The latest Insider Preview build drew attention thanks to the popular “My People” feature that Microsoft had first introduced during the development of the Creators Update and then delayed it. My People now brings a new animation with the latest Preview which appears when you hover over the list elements. According to the folks at MSPU, the effect is internally called as the “Reveal experience,” and is currently in its early form.

The Reveal experience is reportedly going to show up in a lot of different corners of Windows 10, including the Start Menu. This is, of course, a very small effect, but only a start of what we are going to see in the next four months of the Windows 10 Redstone 3 development.
Along with Windows 10 Redstone 3 Preview build, Microsoft has also added a blur effect to its apps, including the Groove Music, Movies & TV, Windows Maps, and View 3D.

Along with the blur effect, Microsoft has also introduced this “Reveal experience” in its Groove Music app, only offered to Windows 10 Fast ring Insiders.

Until now, all we have seen from the Project Neon are small blur effects and animations. While Microsoft has already started to experiment the new changes, Project Neon is reported to get the most focus during the Redstone 3 development. If so, we will probably hear and see a lot of “Neon” at the Build Developer Conference in Washington next week.
