Microsoft Announces Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Redstone 3) Coming in September 2017

After the release of Windows 10 final RTM version to public on July 29, 2015, Microsoft has released 3 feature updates for Windows 10 which are as following:
  • November Update (version 1511)
  • Anniversary Update (version 1607)
  • Creators Update (version 1703)

November Update (also known as Threshold 2) was released on November 12, 2015, to fix issues and make some improvements to the OS. Anniversary Update (also known as Redstone 1) was released on August 02, 2016 which brought many new features and changes to Windows 10 OS. Creators Update (also known as Redstone 2) was released recently on April 05, 2017 which also comes with many new features such as 3D creativity, mixed reality, etc.
So we can see that the release timings of all Windows 10 feature updates are completely random. November Update was released just after 3 months of Windows 10 RTM release, whereas Anniversary Update was released after 9 months of November Update release and the recent Creators Update was released after 8 months of Anniversary Update release.
Now Microsoft has announced that the company will release 2 feature updates for Windows 10 every year. The company has planned a twice-per-year feature release schedule for Windows 10 operating system. One feature update will release in March and the second feature update will release in September month of every year. So basically there will be approx. 6 months time between 2 feature updates release every year.
This brings a good news for all Windows 10 users. It means the next feature update for Windows 10 i.e. Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Redstone 3) will be released in September 2017.
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will come with many UI changes and new features. Microsoft has already announced details about some key features of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update which are as following:
Windows Story Remix:
This app is built on .NET and will be distributed through Windows Store as a UWP (Universal Windows Application). Story Remix uses AI and deep learning to organize and transform your photos and videos into stories. It will use the Microsoft Graph to connect you and your friends across devices. Story Remix brings your memories, or even your friends' photos and videos together to create stories with a soundtrack, theme, and cinematic transitions. You can also create mixed reality by adding 3D objects to your photos and videos to tell stories in a whole new way or turn your photos and videos into your canvas, drawing on them with Windows Ink.
Microsoft Fluent Design System (earlier known as Project Neon):
Microsoft Fluent Design System will deliver intuitive, harmonious, responsive and inclusive cross-device experiences and interactions. For developers, Fluent Design is built to help you create more expressive and engaging apps that work across a wide range of device and input diversity.
Timeline:
With Timeline in Windows 10, you can jump back in time to find what you were working on. With a visual timeline that displays what you were doing when, you can easily hop back into files, apps, and sites as if you never left.
Pick Up Where You Left Off:
With Cortana, you can pick up where you left off across Windows, iOS, and Android devices. Imagine logging off your PC and having the doc you were editing pop up on your phone. Cortana asks if you want to pick up where you left in your app, doc, or website. It's like having your PC and your phone finish each other's sentences.
Cloud-Powered Clipboard:
Clipboard is a fast and easy way to copy and paste just about anything between connected devices, whether you're on a Windows PC or your favorite mobile phone. Just hit copy on what you want to grab - your photo, map link, paragraph, or even an animated gif and it is ready to paste into whatever you want. It's the Clipboard you know and love, now cloud-powered.
OneDrive Files On-Demand:
Access all your files in the cloud without having to download them and use storage space on your device. You don't have to change the way you work because all your files - even online files - can be seen in File Explorer and accessed on-demand whenever they are needed.
Microsoft has also announced that each Windows 10 feature release will be serviced and supported for 18 months.
We should keep in mind that it's a commitment and there might be delays in releasing the feature updates. Sometimes a showstopper bug and incomplete features may delay the release of a product. But we are sure that Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Redstone 3) will definitely arrive in September or October 2017.
