How To Delete Your Digital Assistant Conversations (Alexa, Google Assistant, etc.)

Home digital assistants like Amazon Echo and Google Assistant are designed to listen and respond to conversations to provide better service. Here's how to review what's been recorded and how to delete them.
The directions here are for Alexa and Google Assistant. Directions for Cortana and Siri can be found here:

Recently Amazon Echo recorded a conversation and then sent it to a contact. It's not likely to happen often, or to you, but it might be a good time to check on what conversations Alexa has recorded and deleted any that you don't want Amazon to keep.

Alexa (Amazon)
You can review and delete conversations from Alexa using the mobile app:

  • Open the Alexa app on your smartphone and tap the menu button to open the sidebar.
  • Select Settings
  • Select History (here are the audio recordings retained by your Amazon device)
  • Select a recording
  • Select Delete for a recording
This is good for removing individual recordings. If you want to delete the entire catalog of requests, go to the Manage My Content and Devices page, select Your Devices, click on the Alexa device, choose Manage Voice Recordings and choose to delete everything option. If you have more than one device you'll have to repeat this for each one.

To verify that all Alexa conversations and requests have been deleted using the Alexa mobile app:
  • Open the Alexa app
  • Choose Settings
  • Choose History-View Requests to Alexa
The Alexa Request History should be empty. If there are additional devices listed you'll need to clear each one.
Google Assistant
How to delete all Google Assistant history:

  • Go to your Google Account's Assistant Activity page. If you haven't already, sign in to your Google Account.
  • Near "My Activity," click the three dot menu and choose More
  • Select Delete activity by
  • Under "Delete by date," choose All time.
  • Choose Delete and then OK.
  • Choose Delete to confirm
How to delete a specific Google Assistant activity or item:
You can delete an individual item, like something you asked your Assistant to remember.

  • Go to your Google Account's Assistant Activity page. You'll need to be signed in to your Google Account.
  • Find the item you want to delete.
  • Click the three dot menu and choose More
  • Select Delete

Ofcom: 5G Auction Begins Next Week

After fighting off legal challenges from BT and Three, the regulator aims to sell off airwaves ‘as quickly as possible’, avoiding the delays that plagued earlier sales
Ofcom said on Tuesday it will begin the process of auctioning next-generation 5G spectrum next week, bringing the start date forward to Tuesday, 20 March after fighting off legal challenges from two operators.
It is expected to be several weeks before Ofcom can determine the winning bids.
Late last month Ofcom named the six operators that will be able to take part in the auction, which is also selling access to 4G spectrum.
At the time the regulator said it wanted to begin the auction “as quickly as possible”, following the repeated delays that affected 2013’s 4G sale.
Next-generation mobile
“We’re pressing ahead with the auction to make these airwaves available as quickly as possible,” said Ofcom spectrum group director Philip Marnick at the time. “This will benefit today’s mobile users by providing more capacity for mobile broadband use. It will also pave the way for 5G, allowing operators to launch the next generation of mobile technology.”
Ofcom is to auction 40 MHz of spectrum in the 2.3 GHz band, expected to be used immediately to expand current 4G broadband offerings.
The auction will also include 150 MHz of spectrum in the 3.4 GHz band, which is not compatible with most current mobile devices but is considered key for 5G services when they become available, which may happen in 2020.
Airspan Spectrum Holdings, BT-owned EE, Connexin, Hutchison 3G UK, Telefónica UK and Vodafone have been invited to take part in the auction.
Airspan is a small cell operator, while Connexin operates in the Hull area as a fixed wireless operator, offering superfast broadband to locations without a physical connection.
Legal challenges
Ofcom had faced legal challenges from BT/EE and Three because it wanted to limit any single operator to 255MHz of ‘immediately usable’ spectrum (that is, 800MHz, 900MHz, 1400MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz and 2.6GHz) and 340MHZ of all airwaves available in the UK – an overall cap of 37 percent.
BT has 255MHz and so is banned from bidding in the 2.3GHz auction but could gain as much as 85MHz of the 3.4GHz band.
Vodafone has 176MHz so is limited to 85MHz of each, while Three and O2 have no restrictions.
Three had wanted the overall cap to be lowered to 30 percent.

Facebook’s AI now filters out those photos you trusted your ex with

Late last year, we learned of Facebook’s plan to combat the spread of revenge porn through its services. The plan was admittedly a little weird, as it involved sending your own naked photos to yourself through Messenger and having Facebook engineers create a unique hash for those images that would prevent them from being shared across the whole of Facebook. The company has fine-tuned its approach to revenge porn prevention in the months since we first heard about this initiative, and today it’s launching this new program in a few regions around the world.
In a post to the Facebook Safety page today, global head of safety Antigone Davis explains what has changed. First and foremost, Facebook has recruited a lot of partners to help with this initiative, including “the Australian Office of the eSafety Commissioner, the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative and The National Network to End Domestic Violence in the US, the UK Revenge Porn Helpline, and YWCA Canada.”
The process of getting an image blocked looks a little different than it did the first time we heard about this, as Facebook will now have you contact one of the partners listed above if you feel a compromising image may be shared on Facebook proper, Messenger, or Instagram. After submitting the required form, you’ll then receive an email with a secure upload link that can be used one time, which you can use to upload the image you think might be shared.
From there, the Community Operations Safety Team at Facebook will review the report and create a unique hash for the photo in question. The hash – not the photo – is then kept by Facebook and used to automatically block the image from appearing on any of Facebook’s services. Facebook says that all images submitted are deleted no more than seven days after the report has been received.
Beginning today, Facebook is launching this service in the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia in what it calls a pilot program. Assuming it’s successful in keeping instances of revenge porn off Facebook, we’ll likely see it spread to other areas before long. What do you think of this initiative? Head down to the comments section and share your thoughts.

Instagram mute ousts humblebrags from the feed: Here’s how

Instagram is adding a new mute feature to its feed, a more discreet way to oust bragging friends from your timeline without prompting unfollow arguments. It’s being billed as a useful option to curate your timeline, and there’ll still be ways to see content that muted friends share – or that you’re tagged in.
To actually mute an account, you first have to hit the “…” menu button in the upper right corner of a post from the person you want to silence from your feed. Tapping the “Mute” option brings up two choices. You can either mute posts alone, but still see that user’s Instagram Stories in the thumbnail gallery that runs along the top of the timeline, or mute both posts and Stories.
If you’re looking at a profile, meanwhile, you can mute the account from there, too. Finally, you can press and hold on a Story thumbnail and get to the mute option that way.
There are a few important things to know before you mute someone or a company. You’ll still be able to access their profile page, for instance, and see their latest photos and videos there. You’ll also still get notified if you’re tagged in a comment or post of theirs.
Mute has become one of the more useful features on social networks like Twitter and Facebook in the past few years, as a way to avoid seeing content shared from others but without having to go all the way to unfollowing or unfriending them. As with those other networks, if you mute someone on Instagram they won’t know about it – like bookmarking an Instagram post, there’s no notification that you’ve done so to the user themselves.
As you’d expect, you can also un-mute someone if you later decide they’re worthy of your feed. That’s done through their profile: tap the menu button, and you’ll get an option to restore them to the timeline.
It’s the latest in Instagram’s attempts to pacify users frustrated by the switch to the algorithmic timeline. Whereas originally the company sorted the photos and videos it would show each user chronologically, it later switched to a more complex system that takes into account the calculated likelihood that you’ll be interested in seeing each piece of content. Instagram also uses your track record of interactions with the person posting, too: if you’ve liked some of their other photos recently, for example, you might see more of them higher in the timeline, even if there’s newer content from other people.

Google Maps just gave iPhone users a fun UI treat

Google Maps is adding a cute new interface tweak, though right now only those using the iOS version for iPhone and iPad will be able to play with it. The new Google Maps for iOS is getting a customizable navigation icon, for those bored with the traditional blue arrow that shows where you currently are on the map.
Instead, users will be able to choose between three new 3D vehicles to take its place. There’s a red sedan, a green pickup truck, and a yellow SUV, all rendered in 3D for use in the navigation UI. You can switch between them by tapping on the icon itself and then swiping through the three new options; that’s also where you can switch back to the default arrow if you’re feeling old-school.
The vehicles themselves are more 8-bit in their design than accurate representations of actual cars. Still, they bounce with eager glee at getting onto the road, and there’s a playfulness which your kids might get a kick out of.
Certainly, it’s not the first time we’ve seen customizable graphics in navigation. Indeed most standalone GPS devices intended for in-car use have allowed the car icon to be customized according to driver taste. Google’s advantage, though, could well be its connectivity: it’ll be able to add in new car models, and maybe even allow users to pick the same vehicle that they’re actually driving, over time.
Unfortunately for those using Google Maps for Android, there’s no sign of customizable vehicle graphics on there yet. Google hasn’t said whether it plans to extend the new icons to users of its own OS, though that would seem an obvious route for the company to take.
The updated Google Maps for iOS, with these new graphics, is rolling out now. You’ll need to be in navigation mode, with an active route, in order to actually see the new graphics.

Nvidia Launches a 3GB GeForce GTX 1050 for PC Gamers on a Budget

A year and a half after the release of the GeForce GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti, PC gaming’s budget champions, Nvidia has quietly launched a new graphics card that blends the two. Over the weekend, a 3GB GeForce GTX 1050 appeared on the company’s website with no fanfare and a somewhat odd configuration—as VideoCardz first notice—despite looming rumors about the potential launch of a new GeForce generation later this summer.
The 3GB GTX 1050 splits the difference between the GTX 1050’s 2GB of onboard GDDR5 memory and the GTX 1050 Ti’s 4GB, as the name indicates. The extra memory buffer should help the 3GB GTX 1050 handle modern games a bit better—2GB just doesn’t cut it in 2018 unless you’re playing e-sports or indie titles. But Nvidia also nerfed the card’s memory bandwidth. The 3GB GTX 1050 only packs a 96-bit bus, compared to the 128-bit bus of its siblings, bringing its total bandwidth down to 84GBps. The others hit 112GBps.
Despite the name, the graphics processor at the heart of the 3GB GTX 1050 actually hews more closely to the faster GTX 1050 Ti. Both the Ti and the new card pack 768 CUDA cores, while the original GTX 1050 only has 640. Nvidia cranked the clock speeds in the fresh hardware, too. The 3GB GTX 1050 can boost up to 1,518MHz, compared to 1,455MHz for the original GTX 1050 and 1,392MHz for the GTX 1050 Ti.
Those faster clock speeds are probably why Nvidia saddled the card with the slower bandwidth, to give the GTX 1050 Ti room to breathe. A Nvidia spokesperson says “It depends on the game, but on average, GTX 1050 3GB is approximately 10 percent faster than GTX 1050 2GB.”
gtx 1050 specs
Nvidia
While it’s encouraging to see new hardware released during the current graphics card dry spell, the confusing mishmash of memory and core GPU specs in the GTX 1050 trio feels a bit consumer-unfriendly—especially because Nvidia said a key goal of its now-dead GeForce Partner Program was “no substitute GPUs hidden behind a pile of techno-jargon.” Hopefully, Nvidia and its partners find a way to identify the various models in a clear way beyond simply slapping a “3GB” on the boxes for the new cards.
Nvidia’s website doesn’t list pricing or availability information for the 3GB GeForce GTX 1050, but a spokesperson says “it’ll occupy the similar price bands with the existing lineup.” The original GTX 1050 starts around $140 in today’s price-inflated GPU market, with the GTX 1050 Ti sitting around $200. These cards will only be offered by Nvidia partners like EVGA, Zotac, and Asus, and we could see models hit the streets after Computex in early June, Nvidia says.
What you need to know: Until we’ve secured one for review, we’d tentatively recommend the 3GB GTX 1050 for the same use case as the original. Consider it a solid, power-efficient option for e-sports and casual 1080p gaming at Low to Medium graphics settings. It doesn’t need additional power supply cables to run, so a card like this could give a big boost to pre-built PCs.
Check out PCWorld’s guide to GeForce graphics cards to see what to expect from every offering in Nvidia’s gaming lineup, and our guide to the best graphics cards to see how GeForce stacks up against AMD’s Radeon.
Editor’s note: This article was updated with information from Nvidia about pricing and performance expectations.

Pornhub launches VPNhub – a free and unlimited VPN service

PornHub wants you to keep your porn viewing activities private, and it is ready to help you out with its all-new VPN service.

Yes, you heard that right.

Adult entertainment giant PornHub has launched its very own VPN service today with "free and unlimited bandwidth" to help you keep prying eyes away from your browsing activity.

Dubbed VPNhub, the VPN service by PornHub is available for both mobile as well as desktop platform, including Android, iOS, MacOS, and Windows.

VPN, or Virtual Private Network, allows users to transmit data anonymously, avoids ISP-level website blocking or tracking and keeps your browsing activity private by encrypting your data, even when you are on public Wi-Fi connections.

vpnhub

VPNhub promises never to store, collect, sell, or share your personal information with any third parties for their marketing, advertising or research purposes.

However, in its privacy policy under the heading, "How We Use Your Information," the company says it can sell "aggregate or non-personally identifiable information with non-affiliated third parties for advertising, marketing or research purposes."

Since some government, including that of United Kingdom, are regulating adult content online, launching a VPN service by Pornhub makes sense.

Pornhub launches VPNhub

VPNhub is available in countries across the globe except for Burma/Myanmar, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria, due to the ban imposed by the U.S. government.

While mobile users (both iOS and Android) can download and use the VPNhub app for free, desktop users (MacOS and Windows) have to purchase a premium account.

You can also upgrade your free account to a premium subscription for $13 a month or $90 for a full year, which eliminates ads, provides faster connection speeds, and opens up "servers from a wide range of countries."

You can give premium VPNhub a try by using its use 7-day free trial.

Instagram Now Lets You Mute Accounts

Instagram today introduced a way to mute accounts, giving users a way to continue following accounts without seeing their posts all the time.
Muted accounts will not be made aware that they’ve been muted, and users can unmute accounts at any time. Users can still see posts on the muted account’s profile page and get notified about comments or posts they’re tagged in.
Users can mute accounts by tapping the “…” in the corner of the post and choosing between muting posts, stories, or posts and stories.
First and foremost, this continues Instagram’s effort to block bullying and harassment on the social network. While users have had the ability to block accounts for a long time, muting is a next step in blocking out someone without any of the consequences that might come from blocking them.
This could also come in handy for folks going through a break-up or some other social split, as they don’t necessarily want to see every single post from their ex but don’t want to be seen unfollowing them either.
Of course, the broader demographic will simply have more control over Instagram’s algorithmic feed, which prioritizes accounts and posts it thinks you will like (read: promotes engagement at all costs).
The algorithmic feed has added a layer of complexity to Instagram, making users think more cautiously about the way they throw around likes. Posts, and accounts, that you like may very well get top billing in your feed because of it, even if you only liked the post to show friends some love.
Muting gives users a bit more control over what they see regardless of what they’ve liked or what Instagram’s algorithm deems relevant.

How to Reset Forgotten User Account Password in Windows 10

In Windows operating system, we can set a login password for any user account to improve safety and security of our computer system. When we install Windows OS in our machines, it requires us to create a local user account and we are also asked to set a login password and password hint to easily recall the password if we forget in future.
In past, if we forgot a user account password in Windows, we had to use complicated methods like password reset disk, Net User command, recovery/rescue disks, etc to retrieve (recover) or reset the password. You can check out following tutorial to learn more about these methods:
But in newer Windows 10 versions, now it's much easier to reset a forgotten user account password. Newer Windows 10 versions allow users to create 3 security questions associated with their local user account and in case they forget their user account password, they can take help of these security questions to reset/remove the previous password and then they can set a new password for their user account.
When you install newer versions of Windows 10 on your computer machine, Windows 10 asks you to create 3 security questions for your user account as shown in the following screenshot:
https://media.askvg.com/articles/images6/Create_Security_Questions_User_Account_Windows_10.png
You can select any question from following given list:
  • What was your first pet's name?
  • What's the name of the city where you were born?
  • What was your childhood nickname?
  • What's the name of the city where your parents met?
  • What's the first name of your oldest cousin?
  • What's the name of the first school you attended?
You can set any answer to all question. In fact, you can use the same answer for all 3 questions if you want. The answers are not case-sensitive.
Once you create and set 3 security questions at the time of installation, you just need to remember the security questions answers. Now whenever you forget your user account password, you can use the security questions to reset the forgotten password.
To reset the forgotten user account password, do not enter any password in password box at the login screen and press Enter key. You'll get the message "The password is incorrect. Try again.". Click on OK button.
Now you'll get "Reset Password" link present below the password box. Click on the link and Windows will ask you the answers to 3 security questions which you set at installation time.
https://media.askvg.com/articles/images6/Reset_User_Account_Password_Windows_10.png
Type the correct answers in all 3 text boxes and press Enter key. Now Windows will allow you to enter a new password for your user account.
https://media.askvg.com/articles/images6/Create_New_Password_User_Account_Windows_10.png
You can now change the password and set a new password for your user account.
So you see it's really very easy now to reset a forgotten user account password in Windows 10 operating system.

WhatsApp revamps Groups to fight Telegram

Facebookjust installed its VP of Internet.org as the new head of WhatsApp after its CEO Jan Koum left the company. And now Facebook is expanding its mission to get people into “meaningful” groups to WhatsApp. Today, WhatsApp launched a slew of new features for Groups on iOS and Android that let admins set a description for their community and decide who can change the Groups settings. Meanwhile, users will be able to get a Group catches up that shows messages they were mentioned in and search for people in the group.
WhatsApp’s new Group descriptions
WhatsApp Group participant search
Group improvements will help WhatsApp better compete with Telegram, which has recently emerged as an insanely popular platform for chat groups, especially around cryptocurrency. A telegram has plenty of admin controls of its own, but the two apps will be competing over who can make it easiest to digest these fast-moving chat forums.
“These feature are based on user requests. We develop the product based on what our users want and need” a WhatsApp spokesperson told me when asked why it’s making this update. “There are also people coming together in groups on WhatsApp like new parents looking for support, students organizing study sessions, and even city leaders coordinating relief efforts after natural disasters.”
Facebook is on a quest to get 1 billion users into “meaningful” Groups and recently said it now has hit the 200 million user milestone. Groups could help people strengthen their ties with their city or niche interests, which can make them feel less alone.
With Group descriptions, admins can explain the purpose and rules of a group. They show up when people check out the group and appear atop the chat window when they join. New admin controls let them restrict who is allowed to alter a group’s subject, icon, and description. WhatsApp is also making it tougher to re-add someone to a group they left so you can’t “Group-add-spam people”. Together, these could make sure people find relevant groups, naturally acclimate to their culture, and don’t troll everyone.
As for users, the new Group catches up feature offers a new @ button in the bottom right of the chat window that when tapped, surfaces all your replies and mentions since you last checked. And if you want to find someone specific in the Group, the new participant search on the Info page could let you turn a group chats into a private convo with someone you meet.
WhatsApp Group catch up
Now that WhatsApp has a stunning 1.5 billion users compared to 200 million on Telegram, its next phase of growth may come from deepening engagement instead of just adding more accounts. Many people already do most of their one-on-one chatting with friends on WhatsApp, but Groups could invite tons of time spent as users participate in communities of strangers around their interests.
